Weekly News: Demo, Demo, and More Demo!...Not to Mention Other Things

February 15, 2019

Dearly Beloved,

This past Sunday, our “Take Down That Wall” party was an absolute blast. Loretta Reynolds took the first “whack” and then the rest of us jumped in and had a “smashing” good time (pun totally intended!). We made a very good start during the party of removing the north wall of the parish. Once the party activities wound down, several of the men of the parish stayed for a few hours and finished most of the major demo work. You can see plenty of the party pictures here our website. On Monday, I was joined by Paul Sewrey and Glen Blackburn and we removed the remaining wall studs. The header picture above is what the space looks like today.

I want to thank all of you for your enthusiastic participation in this last phase of our expansion. We do not intend to hire out any of the work because we have more than enough talent in this parish to make this happen. It is all of us, working together, that allows us to be good stewards in this parish and not waste money for something we can readily do.

Finish the Demo Tomorrow
Tom Clyde, our Rector’s Warden, has organized a work party to finish the demo in the parish hall. If you are able, come on out and help. Any tools you can think of to bring, please do so. The work party will gather tomorrow afternoon, Friday (Feb. 15), at 1:00 p.m. The focus of the work will be to get the carpet and baseboards torn out, as well as removing the mini-split A/C units. There are a few other items that will be worked on to get us prepared to put it all back together. Next week, we expect the moving of the electrical lines will be accomplished and then we can move forward with finishing our new space.

Painting our Buildings
The Vestry has approved a painting contract with a local painter. His crew was at the church today, caulking the new office building and also the front of the church. We are on the painter’s schedule for the painting to begin the first week of April. What a joy it will be to have a freshly painted church for Easter!

New Rear Gate
The Vestry has also approved the purchase and installation of a set of gates across our rear driveway. Unfortunately, vehicles have been pulling down into our cemetery and one vehicle ran into the stone wall, causing quite a bit of damage. The new gate will be installed far enough down the driveway so that a vehicle may still park on the driveway out of the traffic on McDowell Rd.

Peter Zwingert
Many of you have been praying for Peter as he has progressed through the Navy’s Nuclear Power School. On Tuesday of this week, he passed his comprehensive exam, clearing him for graduation, which is tomorrow, Friday, February 15. Kathy and I are in Charleston tonight very much looking forward to our son “walking across the stage” in the morning. Peter will be coming home with us this weekend, so you will be able to see him at church on Sunday.

Craft Market Meeting
It is time to have the first craft market meeting to prepare for our annual craft market in October. It takes quite a bit of planning for this event so we must get started now. The meeting will be next Wednesday, February 20, at 6:45 p.m. in the Conference Room in the new administrative building. We know this conflicts with Bible Study but it cannot be helped this time. If you would like to help with the craft market, please come to the meeting.

That is about it for this week. Don’t forget to read the remainder of the announcements below and, as always, pray for each other and this parish. And Happy St. Valentine's Day to you all!

Blessings,
Fr. Erich
